Buoyant from a milestone performance at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit last November, the Morgan Works Race Team is preparing to take its highly popular campaign to the USA in March, where it will compete in the American Le Mans Series 12 hour endurance race at Sebring in Florida.
Works lead driver Adam Sharpe, the 19 year-old GT star who recently joined the
Morgan squad in Los Angeles to launch the USA Aero 8 road car, heads a driver
line-up that also includes his regular team mate and mentor Neil Cunningham. The
duo, who finished a superb debut Morgan season in the British GT Championship
with a stunning win at Brands Hatch, are joined by Keith Ahlers, who impressed
many with a strong 3rd place in the same Championship and a solid performance
with Adam and Neil in the recent Bathurst 24 hour race.
Adam Sharpe comments: "The Aero 8 is a superb car to race and our introduction to the highest levels
of GT racing last season demonstrated our potential and pinpointed the areas we
need to develop. We know how much more there is to come!"
A challenging 2003 season for the official Morgan Works team ended with an
encouraging 8th in a very strong class of 17 in the 1000km Bugatti Circuit race,
signalling to the GT racing world that the legendary independent manufacturer is
determined to prove it is a credible contender for major honours.
Team Manager David Dowse comments: "A good performance at Sebring will underline our case for an entry at Le Mans
this year and will give many thousands of American Morgan supporters and
potential sponsors a chance to see the team in action.
"We are extremely grateful to Yokohama, KW Suspension and CastleEstates.com for
supporting us at Sebring, and we are continuing our quest for additional backing
from other partners. Our attendance at Sebring typifies the additional exposure
and value we aim to bring sponsors who associate with the Morgan brand."
